Go Green in 2015 | Green Resolutions

As we move into the New Year this is a great time to reflect on the year past and begin thinking about the great things to come in the year ahead and the resolutions that you would like to see achieved. While common resolutions include getting in shape, saving more & spending less, & eliminating unhealthy habits, there is another resolution that is becoming increasingly popular and that is to go green!

Green resolutions are a great way to help do your part in ensuring a clean community and sustainable environment for many generations to come. By taking steps towards becoming more green this year, you can help reduce pollution and greenhouse gases, shrink the waste stream, and conserve energy and valuable natural resources. Here are a few easy tips to help make your green resolutions a success this year!

  • Recycle! If you do not currently recycle, you will be amazed at how easy it has become to recycle in most communities. Single-stream recycling services such as those offered by Millennium Waste to residents in Aledo, IL make it very simple to recycle glass, plastic, aluminum, paper, and cardboard in one container without the need to sort. If sorting is still required where you live, simplify the process by using plastic storage containers or cardboard boxes labeled for each recyclable material and place them in a convenient location such as your utility room or in your garage to collect your recyclables.

  • Power Down! Shutting down computers and electronic devices when not use can save you hundreds of dollars per year on your energy bill while reducing the need for energy production at the same time. You can also save on energy costs by remembering to shut off lights when you leave a room and by completely unplugging all unnecessary devices from outlets if you do not plan on using them in the near future.

  • Upgrade! If you rely on outdated incandescent lightbulbs for lighting or if you are still using the appliances that have been in your home for 10 or more years, making the decision to upgrade to more energy efficient products could save you hundreds on your annual energy bills and even more in future replacement costs. Energy efficient lighting in the form of LEDs or CFL’s can reduce the amount of energy used to light your home by 75% with the added benefit of a product lifespan that is 10-20 times greater than that of a standard lightbulb.

These are only a few of the things that you can easily do around your home to work your way towards becoming more green in 2015, but the list does not stop here! There are many more things that you can do each day to reduce your carbon footprint and environmental impact. Carpooling is a great way to save money and fuel when it comes to your daily commute. Going shopping? Bring your own reusable shopping bags from home or reuse the bags from your previous visit to the store!

Millennium Waste is here to help you achieve your resolution to go green in 2015.
