Littering Facts and Information - Don't be a litterbug!

Littering causes a variety of issues beginning with the environmental impact leading towards the interference of a community’s good health and quality of lifestyle. It is crucial to keep our communities clean not only for ourselves, but for future generations as well.

Littering causes a long list of unfortunate issues. The carelessness of littering negatively impacts the environment while money is also wasted as taxpayers money employs people to pick up trash. Litter accumulates and develops a breeding ground for bacteria while attracting vermin, developing public health issues. Millennium Waste is driven to keep the Quad City community clean and encourages residents to keep the community thriving and looking its best.

Educate

Education will encourage others to not litter as well as spread the word of its negative effects. Refrain from overfilling garbage bins. Wind can easily blow an overfilled bin’s lid open and disperse the trash throughout the neighborhood. Post reminders on community bulletin boards on the effects of littering and how to reduce littering. Proper disposal of trash in a confined space prevents the possibility of trash spreading. According to a KAB (Keep American Beautiful, Inc) study, “Most littering behavior—81%—occurred with notable intent. This included dropping (54%), flick/fling of the item (20%), and other littering with notable intent (7%).

Secure Trash

Cigarette butts, cans and other light-weight waste materials can be easily picked up by the wind and scattered far away from the correct waste and recycling receptacles. When in public places, be sure to dispose garbage securely so it will not be spread to other places.

Community Clean-up Day

Participate in various community events that promote a healthier environment.Form a group and collect garbage litter throughout the community or neighborhood, the work is rewarding and enjoyable as community members gather with one initiative: a cleaner environment.

Opportunities for keeping a community clean and beautiful are vast, and garbage collection companies such as Millennium Waste are here to help carry out environmental initiatives including trash pickup and recycling services.

Recycle Bins

Help your local community and the overall environment by simply recycling instead of littering. Natural resources, landfill space, energy and clean air and water will benefit from this simple act.

Litter Bags

Trash can easily be taken by the wind and blow out of a window or a car door when opened. Keep a bag in your vehicle and throw trash in the bag. This will keep the streets clean as well as maintaining the organization and cleanliness of your vehicle. Roadside littering is illegal and can be easily solved by individuals keeping a bag inside of their vehicle for trash purposes.
